Why?

The only game we played previously was 'Memory with Animals' which, despite being simple, was a great learning experience. As we wanted to continue learning, we created this game and approached it with concepts such as the Unity framework, achievements, leaderboards and in-game purchases.

How?

We develop using C# in the Unity framework. Unlike our previous game, we used this framework to increase our productivity and make creating future games easier. We integrate with Google Play Games for achievements and leaderboards.

Lessons Learned

It was quite interesting to work with Unity and Google Play Games. Each new step with these technologies was a barrier, but once overcome it allows us to travel this path again with ease.

Why?

A relative had a site for his busines but it was really outadated. The site had some features in flash (no longer supported) and was not a good experience for mobile user. We figured out that the best solution was recreate the site using tecnologies more fit to current needs.

How?

We developed this site in Javascript using Node.js, along with MongoDB, Boostrap and JQuery. Almost every aspect of the site is configurable and can be changed by the admin.

We needed a free solution for the map feature and we choose the OpenStreetMap. It turned out to be perfect for our needs.

Lessons Learned

It was really good to put to use the web development skills in a real project. Besides some smaller challenges, most of the learning came from put the site on line and manage/improve it while running.

Why?

We used to play relaxing songs to our baby to sleep. That became a routine and we started needing this everyday. To avoid having to rely on a internet conection we decided to create a simple app that would play the song. Later we added some features like automatically stop after some play time.

How?

This project was made using Java on the Android Studio IDE. Initially it was just for personal use but we decided to publish it and we are happy to know that this app is also useful for other families.

It was a good way to learn more about android services and audio players.

Why?

One of our goals is to create games that help kids learn while having fun. We had to start from somewhere so we develop a simple game in order to execute every step of a project in practice.

How?

This project was made using Java on the Android Studio IDE. As it was a study project, no game engine was used. It was all developed in its own little engine using mostly the Android Canvas class.

Lessons Learned

We learned a lot on this project but the main points were: optimizations to avoid using too much battery, publishing the app on the Google Play Store and placing ads on the app.
